“You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.” Exodus 20:3-4 (NIV)

These first two commands teach us a powerful principle, the Principle of Priority – to put God first in everything we do.  If you want God’s blessing in your life, put God first.  If you want His blessing in your marriage, put Him first in your marriage as a couple.  If you want His blessings in your finances, put Him first in your giving.  Wherever you want God’s blessing in your life that’s where you need to put Him first.

Jesus put it like this in Matthew 6:33 (NKJV) But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”  In fact, here’s a good tip that Chris and I have learned over the years.  We quit making so many resolutions every year and decided to make just one. Put God first in everything.  If you’ll do that every day you won’t have to worry about breaking the 10 Commandments.

Here’s a great way to begin.  Decide now.  Commit to give God the first part of your day in prayer and Scripture reading.  Set aside at least 10 to 15 minutes each morning with God as your Divine Appointment.  You could read a chapter in Proverbs a day and/or five chapters in Psalms.  Pray back to God the promises and insights you are learning.  Set your clock back 10 to 15 minutes to give yourself and God that special time together.  Then, commit to give God the first day of the week in worship at your church.  As you go to church commit to give God the first part of your income.  The Bible calls this the tithe, or ten percent of what God has blessed you with to express your thanks and dependence on Him.  This Principle of Priority – putting God first, will unleash the blessing of God in your life.
